Destruction of Records for Students with Disabilities
Rockdale County Public
Schools, Department of Learning Support, announces its intention to destroy
records that were developed to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education
(FAPE) in Rockdale County Public Schools for Students with Disabilities.
This notice is in compliance with the federal, state, and local policy.
Records will be destroyed on Thursday, July 12, 2018 based on the following
criteria:
Students who became
twenty-two (22) years old prior to January 1, 1995.
These records will be
destroyed as they are no longer needed for educational planning purposes.
The parent, legal guardian, or student (18 years old or older) may request
records prior to destruction by contacting the Learning Support records office
at 770-860-4231. You will be required to provide photo identification or
provide verification data to acquire these records.
Special Needs Scholarship (SB10)
The application window for the 18-19 SY has closed.
Parents/guardians of a student who receives special education services may choose to transfer their child to another public or private school in Georgia. For information concerning the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship, please visit the Georgia Department of Education website.
* Your child's teacher will be sending home a letter and application with your student.
* We will begin accepting applications on Monday, April 16, 2018.
* Deadline for application submission is Monday, June 11, 2018 at 4:00 pm.
* Parents will receive notification, by letter, of the district's decision regarding your request for the 2018-19 school year by Tuesday, July 10, 2018.
Georgia Parent Mentor Program
Parents of children with disabilities are often faced with very complex
issues. The special education maze can be confusing and finding the help
and support you need for your child can be overwhelming. In August
2003, the position of Parent Mentor for Special Education was
implemented in our school system. This position is a parent-driven
initiative by the Department of Education to assist Georgia local school
systems in employing a parent of a child with a disability to advise,
educate, and support school system families on a daily basis.
If you would like to talk to another parent who understands your concerns
and knows how to build effective working relationships with your child's
teachers, the parent mentor project may be able to help you. The
Georgia Parent Mentor Program is a free service available to all Georgia
parents.
