ROCKDALE FLEX
Foundational Leadership and Entrepreneurship Experience


WHAT IS ROCKDALE FLEX? 
FLEX is an entrepreneurship competition designed to give students real-world experience to pitch their ideas. The best pitches receive seed money to start and operate their businesses. The top businesses will walk away with cash prizes.

PURPOSE
To promote innovation and invigorate Rockdale’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by supporting the development of start-ups and providing Rockdale County Public Schools’ students with advisory and administrative support services regarding the rewards, sacrifices, and processes incurred in the establishment of small businesses.


RULES

1.  Companies must be composed of 1 to 3 students. All team members must be current Rockdale County Public Schools' students.

2.  Companies must have a Rockdale County Public Schools' advisor.

3.  The competition is open to current 9-12 grade students.

4.  Former FLEX champions may not compete again, however, finalists are eligible.

5.  Companies must pay back their loan to be considered for the final round of competition.

ROUNDS

Round 1:
Student entrepreneurs form teams, referred to as companies, and submit an application to be judged by a panel of local business leaders. Out of the initial applicants, up to 10 will be selected to advance to the next round.

Round 2: The selected companies will receive a loan for seed money. They will then operate their businesses for 8-10 weeks.  Each team will be assigned a mentor that will provide tools to increase the success of their business. Based on business performance, the top companies will be selected to advance to the final round.


Round 3: The top companies will present a “Shark Tank” style business pitch to a panel of judges.

The opinions and decisions made by the panels of judges at each round of the competition are final. The opinions of the judges are independent of Rockdale County Public Schools and the sponsors of FLEX.
