Learning Support

The Department of Learning Support is dedicated to providing support to children, parents, and the faculty of the Rockdale County Public Schools. The department is based at the Central Office facility located at 960 Pine Street NE, Conyers, GA, 770-860-4231.

Learning Support Services (LSS) incorporates a variety of specialists that includes coaches, special educators, speech and language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, and vision/hearing teachers. LSS is also responsible for monitoring and implementing special education services and programs throughout the school district. The LSS staff regularly offers training and workshops to faculty to ensure the highest quality of training and valuable resources.

GEORGIA SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOLARSHIP

The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program (SB 10) was established by the Georgia State Legislature in 2007. This program allows parents of students who receive special education services to request a transfer for their child to another public or private school in Georgia, provided the child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and has been enrolled for a full academic year in a Georgia public school.

The application window will close at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 30, 2025. Parents will receive notification, by letter and email, of the district's decision regarding your request for the 2025-2026 school year by Friday, June 13, 2025.

Child Find Notice

(Identification of Services for Individuals with Disabilities)
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Rockdale County Public Schools implements a comprehensive Child Find system to assure that all children who are in need of early intervention or special education services are located, identified, and referred.  The Child Find network assists in identifying and providing appropriate educational help to students with disabilities.  If you suspect your child, ages 3-21, may be a child with a disability, you are encouraged to contact the Learning Support Services office of Rockdale County Public Schools at 770-860-4231.  Personnel can support you in exploring what services may be available.

Child Find extends to children who are parentally placed in private or home schools.  Rockdale County Public Schools personnel are available to meet with the representative from private and home schools to inform them of the district’s Child Find procedures and services that may be available under the proportionate share of federal special education funds.  If your child is enrolled in a private school or home school and has been identified as a child with a disability or you suspect your child has a disability, you may contact Dr. Tyra Simon, Director of Learning Support at 770-860-4231 for more information.
